Swede imprisoned for trying to buy teen sex in the US

Jesper Lundberg, a 40-year-old from Järfälla near Stockholm, has been sentenced to five years and ten months in prison by a court in Virginia for trying to engage in illicit sexual conduct with a 14-year-old girl, Aftonbladet reported on Friday.

Lundberg had previously pleaded guilty to the offence and the sentence was pursuant to the plea agreement. Following his release Lundberg will remain under court supervision and will be required to register as a sex offender in any US jurisdiction in which he lives, works or attends school.

Lundberg was lured to the United States in March by US authorities in an internet sting operation.

The girl he thought he would meet did not in fact exist. Instead he had been communicating online for almost a year with an undercover police detective in Arlington, Virginia.

Lundberg traveled the 16 hours from his home to the Virginia suburbs of Washington, DC after having made a deal with the fictitious father of the supposed victim to purchase sex from his 14-year-old daughter. The man was arrested by police in a hotel shortly after his arrival in the state.
