Public urination leads to unrelenting stream of fines

The biggest risk for paying an 800 kronor ($130) fine for a fresh air visit to the toilet is in Halland County in southwest Sweden.

Last year a record number of public urination citations were handed out in Sweden. The 4,147 offenders had to pay a total of 3.5 million kronor for their al fresco bladder release.

Five years earlier only 900 were given fines for their inability to hold it in.

So far this year police in Stockholm have been the most prolific in handing out fines for peeing in public.

But the risk for a fine is higher in Halland if one looks at the number of citations per resident.

The county has been at the top of the list, along with Stockholm and Västra Götaland, for several years despite having significantly fewer residents.
