Moderate Party member of parliament Karl Sigfrid has said he will ignore this party whip and vote against the government's proposed surveillance law.

In an email published by Politikerbloggen, Sigfrid explained his decision to his parliamentary group leader Lars Lindblad.

“Preventing the cable-based surveillance system is more important than my political future,” he writes.

Describing his reason for defying the wishes of his party, Sigfrid says:

“Mass surveillance of Swedish citizens is a measure that is not proportionate to the problems Swedish authorities are expected to solve.”
