On Monday, chief prosecutor Tomas Lindstrand finally closed the case. According to him, the female officer is no longer under suspicion of breaching national security.
Ever since the 35-year-old woman was sent home to Sweden in 2006, she has been subject to a number of investigations. Following preliminary investigations by the Military Intelligence and Security Service (Militära underrättelse- och säkerhetstjänsten – MUST), it was decided that there were not sufficient grounds to remove her from the army.
However, the lieutenant-ranked woman was then subject to further investigations during 2007 and 2008. She was suspected of sending sensitive information to her Serbian spy lover via e-mail.
The man, referred to in the investigation as ‘Z’, was working as an interpreter for the UN in Kosovo when he met the female officer.
