In an interview with Svenska Dagbladet, Carlgren (Cen) said he shared the view of the parliament’s climate commission that the goal, while ambitious, was both “possible and necessary”.
But speaking after the commission announced its findings in February, Fredrik Reinfeldt had a rather different view.
“As far as I can judge such a rapid expansion is unrealistic,” he told TT.
A 50 percent expansion of Sweden’s rail capacity for passenger and cargo transport would cost an estimated 136 billion kronor ($23 billion) over the next ten years. This would include the construction of the ambitious West and East link projects.
