SHOOTING

Three injured in Halmstad shooting

Three men were shot and injured in their legs during the night in the Andersberg district of Halmstad in western Sweden.

Just last autumn the area was shaken by a series of attacks as criminals settled scores with one another.

“But it’s too early to say whether there is a connection,” said police spokesperson Christer Harplinger.

A few minutes after midnight on Wednesday night witnesses called police to report that two men were lying injured in a parking garage after ten shots had been fired there.

Later a third man was discovered who had also been shot.

The two attackers were said to have escaped on foot into an allotment garden area.

“It was very busy when it happened, so we have several eyewitness accounts. We don’t know yet if they are residents who rushed out or were already there,” said Harplinger at 2:30am.

Police escorted ambulances to the football field in the often troublesome areas in southern Halmstad.

The three injured men were taken to hospital, where it was ascertained they had been shot in the legs.

Police are classifying the incident as attempted murder.

The suspects remained at-large early Thursday morning.

The Andersberg neighbourhood has earlier suffered from violent, armed conflicts between what are feared to be criminal gangs.

Police have marked the district as a “problem area”.

In October of last year, a 27-year-old fired shots at a 45-year-old. The younger man later confessed to the shooting and said that the shots were meant to scare the owner of a company.
