The band, cast out of a 2000 television talent show, earned just 14 points with their song “Disappear” – 12 points from Bulgaria, where band member Lucy Diakowska comes from, and 2 points from Switzerland. Only Poland and Great Britain placed below the four-member female band from Germany.
After their performance the No Angels appeared on German TV channel ARD in black dresses and sang “Don’t Worry Be Happy.”
“We were naturally a bit shocked,” band member Jessica Wahls said of their ranking. “But we can be proud of ourselves. The reaction to our show was good and we are still your angels!”

Russian singer Dima Bilan was the winner of the 53rd Grand Prix with his song “Believe,” earning 272 points. The song was produced by US hip hop powerhouse Timbaland, and the performance included violinist Edvin Marton playing a Stradivarius and ice skating star Evgeni Plushenko. Bilan had competed in a previous Eurovision contest, making it to the second round in 2006 at Athens.
Second place went to Ani Lorak of the Ukraine for her song “Shady Lady,” while Greece’s singer Kalomira took third with “Secret Combination.”
An estimated 100 million fans watched the final contest, and viewers in the 43 participating nations voted for their favourite performers via text message and telephone.
Germany last won Eurovision in 1982, when blue-eyed 17-year-old Nicole Hohloch took top honours with her German-language ballad “A Little Peace,” or “Ein bisschen Frieden”.
