'More snow on the way'

Winter has made a comeback Sweden with snowfalls of up to 15 centimetres registered in northern parts of the country.

And meteorological agency SMHI has warned that there is “more snow on the way”.

Just before lunch time on Friday SMHI issued a snow warning for Värmland and parts of Dalarna.

“The snow will continue through Saturday but then it will subside,” said Anna Österman, meteorologist at SMHI.

Just a few short days ago temperatures were soaring and summer seemed to be just around the corner. But the sudden change in the weather is not unusual, according to Österman.

“Previously there were warm winds coming from the south. […] Now we are instead seeing cold air from the icy sea,” she said.

Friday morning saw snowfalls in southern parts of Norrland and western parts of Dalarna.

Swedish Road Administration spokesman Lennart Helsing said that though the recent snow storms were unexpected they had not caused too many traffic disruptions.

Early on Friday morning a truck drove off a main road near Ljusdal, in the north of Sweden, causing minor injuries to two people.
