Email scam targets Nordea

Customers banking with Nordea have been the victims of a new fraud attempt.

Email scam targets Nordea

On Thursday morning Nordea received word that a new fake e-mail had been sent when several customers called to alert the bank.

The message asks Nordea customers go to a website and enter information about their bank accounts and credit cards.

The new scheme is the latest in a string of fraud attempts directed at Swedish bank customers.

“They come at regular intervals and this is nothing specific for Nordea. Customers have started to catch on, so the reactions have decreased,” said Anders Edlund, a spokesperson for Nordea in Sweden, to the TT news agency.

He has no information of anyone being taken in by this latest scam

“A bank will never ask you to provide account information or any codes via email,” said Edlund.

Police in Cologne have warned of a group of fraudsters selling fake vaccination certificates, a growing problem the scale of which is still unclear.

The police said the fraudsters worked in encrypted Telegram chats, making investigations difficult, and were selling fake documents with all the stamps and signatures, including a mark about vaccination with BioNTech or AstraZeneca.

The fraud involved both real traffic in fake documents as well as scams luring customers into paying €100.

People in Germany who are fully vaccinated can show their vaccination booklet, which has a stamp and a sticker inside. Those who don’t have a booklet get a piece of paper.

Covid health passes are currently being rolled out across the EU, with a European health passport expected to be available from mid-June.

German police have said forged coronavirus vaccine documents are becoming an increasing problem.

Last month, a couple in Baden-Württemberg was accused of selling fake coronavirus vaccination certificates.
