Swedish man missing in Thailand

A Swedish man has gone missing in Thailand after going for a swim last Sunday.

The man, who is from Kalmar, has not been seen since. According to the Kalmar news service Barometern.se Thai police fear he may have drowned.

However, so far no body has been disscovered, despite extensive searches on land and at sea by the Thai Coastal Guard on Thursday.

The man was staying at a hotel close to Khanom, in southern Thailand. He arrived at the end of December and planned to stay for three months.

Last Sunday he dined at his hotel’s beach restaurant and planned to go for a swim, despite the hotel staffs’ warnings not to swim so late in the evening. When he failed to return after half an hour, hotel staff raised the alarm.

Extensive searches have been carried out, but with no results. Thursday´s Coastal Guard search provided no further clues to the man’s whereabouts.

According to Teo Zetterman, a spokesman from the Swedish Ministry of Foreign Affairs, there has not been any news on the case today.
