“He was saved because it happened in daylight,” said Johan Wahlöö of the police to the Skånska Dagbladet newspaper.
The man was sprawled out across the tracks shortly before seven o’clock in the evening of Walpurgis Night when a high-speed X-2000 train came barreling toward him.
A watchful train conductor spotted the man and was able to brake in time.
It was unclear how and why the man was on the tracks at the time of the incident.
“There isn’t anything that points to his being a suicide attempt. He was simply really drunk,” Wahlöö told the newspaper.
