Child murder suspect denies involvement

The 31-year-old woman from Stockholm arrested in Germany on suspicion of the murder of two children in Arboga in central Sweden has denied any involvement.

Child murder suspect denies involvement

“She has been interviewed by police and has stated that she has nothing to do with the murder,” German prosecutor Thomas Klinge said to news agency TT.

The 31-year-old woman is being held while a court in Celle rules on a request for deportation to Sweden. The court is expected to reach a decision within a couple of days, said Klinge.

The woman stopped a police car yesterday and turned herself in after having been informed by a relative in Germany that she was wanted by Swedish police. She was driven to a police station in Hannover when police conducted an interview.

The woman arrived in Germany on Tuesday night, 24 hours after the killings in Arboga in central Sweden.

Police in Västmanland report that they are continuing to conduct their inquiries and the arrest of the woman in no way indicates that the case has been solved.

“We are still working broadly and welcome all tips and information from the public regarding the case,” said police press spokesperson Per Strömbäck.

Police were unwilling to detail the basis for why they suspect the 31-year-old woman’s involvement in the double murder. The suspect is known to have connections to the partner of the mother to the murdered children.

The mother, who sustained serious injury in the attack, remains under sedation at Uppsala University hospital. Police confirmed that the woman was being guarded to ensure her safety.

“We check her condition on a daily basis. We are keen to talk to her as soon as possible,” said Strömbäck.
