Giovanni Baglione Drawings

The Baroque painter chronicled the art of his time in his 17th century book Le Vite de’ Pittori, Sculptori e Architetti. But an ongoing tension with the popular artist Caravaggio hurt his reputation. Four centuries later, the first-ever exhibition of Baglione’s drawings is on view in Düsseldorf.

Yona Friedman

An avant-garde urban planning and architecture theorist, Budapest-born Friedman also creates animated films. For this fascinating exhibition, he collaborates with students of the Städelschul, to create an installation of multiple parts, including roofing structures made of wave-like bands and a large-scale wall relief comprised of styrofoam packaging items. Thirteen animated films from 1960, based on African fairy tales will also be shown.

Philadelphia’s spoken word queen has appeared on several of The Roots’ albums, a benefit disc for Mumia Abu Jamal, and has released three albums under her own name, Supa Sista, Silver or Lead, and Ma’at Mama.
