Thief makes off with cash machine

A thief made off at high speed with his loot from a petrol station south of Emmaboda on Saturday morning. The thief had stolen an entire cash machine.

Neighbours reported a ruckus at around 3am on Saturday morning and witnesses saw two vehicles leave the petrol station in Vissefjärda in southern Sweden, according to news agency TT.

A high-speed car chase ensued and police were able to apprehend one of the vehicles, a transit van, when a patrol caught sight of it speeding past on road 28 towards Emmaboda. Police closed off the road and arrested the suspected thief.

On inspection the van was found to contain the entire cash machine for the cash-operated fuel pump at the station.

The other car involved in the heist was able to evade capture and had not been located by lunchtime Saturday.
