Survey: Germans positive about new smoking ban

German smokers and nonsmokers alike may be coming to terms with a new smoking ban, according to a survey by the news magazine Focus.

The Focus survey found that 37 percent of smokers and 59 percent of nonsmokers had good experiences with the smoking ban now in effect in 14 of Germany’s 16 federal states.

Eleven percent of nonsmokers and 29 percent of smokers reported negative experiences. More than a quarter of nonsmokers and about a third of smokers hadn’t made up their minds.

Public opinion institute polis/USUMA surveyed 1,005 Germans over the age of 14 for the magazine’s survey, including 246 smokers and 758 nonsmokers.
