Germany announced on Wednesday it will send 180 police officers to the newly independent Kosovo.
Government spokesperson Ulrich Wilhelm said the German force would be the largest contribution to the European Union’s EULEX mission, which consists of more than 1,800 experts who plan to help the new nation organize its justice, administration and customs systems.
Wilhelm called the Eulex mission an “important contribution” to aiding the country in developing according to a European structure. Kosovo declared independence from Serbia on February 17, and Germany recognized the new nation just a few days later.
The EU has set €205 million aside for the first 16 months of the project.
