Teacher accused of making beer run for 15-year olds

A Stockholm middle school teacher has been charged for purchasing alcohol for two of her female students.

The 37-year old woman is accused of buying an undisclosed amount of beer and strong cider for the two students, both 15-years old at the time.

It is illegal for people under 20 years of age to purchase alcohol in Sweden, although it is legal those aged 18 and above to consume alcoholic beverages.

The incident took place two years ago when the girls were in their last year of middle school.

They had succeeded in convincing their teacher to meet them outside a liquor store after school and purchase alcohol on their behalf.

The teacher denies the charges, but testimony from the girls, as well as SMS-communications, supports the charges.

“Totally unacceptable. If I can’t imagine buying alcohol for my daughter, I’d like to think that I can count on her teacher to think the same way,” said one of the student’s parents to the newspaper Metro.

According to former colleagues, the teacher had purchased alcohol for students on more than one occasion, and had also been seen handing out cigarettes to students during recess.

Upon hearing about the incident from a parent, the principal demanded the teacher resign immediately.
