TERRORISM

Government presents new anti-terror strategy

The Swedish government has unveiled a new national strategy to fight terrorism.

In a debate article in Dagens Nyheter, Foreign Minister Carl Bildt and Justice Minister Beatrice Ask state that the terror threat against Sweden and Swedish interests remains low, but that it “would be naïve to assume that what has happened in neighboring countries can’t also happen here.”

Therefore, write the ministers, Sweden needs to contribute more to cooperative international efforts to fight terrorism.

At the same time, protections for critical infrastructure need to be updated, and new approaches need to be tried to combat segregation, discrimination, and social exclusion “which always run the risk of serving as a breeding ground for violent extremism.”
