The Berlin police have searched the headquarters of the rightwing extremist party, NPD, and arrested a senor party official. The raid took place on Thursday at the offices in the Köpenick district of Berlin. The office of criminal investigation in Düsseldorf is investigating Kemna over false donation receipts. The NDP has a history of financial and administrative breaches. In late 2006, the NPD had to repay €870,000 to public authorities due to erroneous financial documents.

Investigators were already on the case at the party headquarters on Wednesday. Around two dozen agents were the headquarters searching through files and computers on Thursday. An accountant by training, Erwin Kemna is credited with putting the rightwing party on sound financial footing.
