Prince Carl Philip to launch motor racing career

Sweden's Prince Carl Philip has decided to dedicate himself to becoming a race driver.

The revved-up royal has registered to compete in the Porsche Carrera Cup, a series ranked as the second toughest in Sweden, Teknikens Värld reports.

On April 20th the prince is set to make his racing debut at Knutstorp. He will be driving a Porsche Carrera GT3 RS owned by Sweden’s king of speedway, Tony Rickardsson.

Race driver Jan ‘Flash’ Nilsson, owner of the STCC team, is credited with convincing the prince of the need for speed.

For those interested in following the progress of the expeditious son of King Carl XVI Gustaf, the Carrera Cup will be broadcast live on SVT.
