Man ‘smuggled ecstasy in bread loaf’

A man arrested last year carrying a loaf of bread stuffed with ecstasy has been formally charged with drug smuggling by a court in Helsingborg, southern Sweden.

The man, 42, was arrested by customs officers as he passed through Helsingborg port on August 25th last year.

The man arrived in Sweden on a bus, and carried a plastic bag containing the bread loaf through a customs checkpoint. The loaf contained 4,237 ecstasy tablets. Swedish prosecutors treat any smuggling case involving more than 200 tablets as aggravated smuggling.

The man denies all charges against him, although he admits carring the bread, according to Helsingborgs Dagblad. If convicted, he faces 7-8 years’ imprisonment followed by deportation from Sweden.
