In the poll, taken by Skop, 33.1 percent of people questioned said they thought the economic situation would worsen during the year, up from 30.7 percent in October.
Only 22.4 percent of those polled said that they thought the economy would improve this year, a fall of 5.7 percentage points since October.
When it came to their own finances, 16.2 percent said they believed their situation would worsen, compared to 13.7 percent in October. Some 26.2 percent of those asked said they expected to be better off this year than in 2007, compared to 25.5 percent in October.
“Pessimism is deeper than it has been for two-and-a-half years,” said Skop analyst Örjan Hultåker.
Skop interviewed around 1,000 people aged 18-84 between 1st and 28th December.
