Swedish woman found dead at Texas shooting range

A Swedish woman was found dead on Saturday night at a shooting range in Pasadena, Texas.

Police in Pasadena have launched an investigation into the incident after the 28-year-old victim was found with a gunshot wound to the head.

“Apparently she went back to the firing line and was firing this pistol for about 20 minutes when management came over the PA system and said for everyone to leave so they could clear the line,” Pasadena Police Department spokesman Vance Mitchell told the Houston Chronicle.

Employees at the Pasadena Gun Center and Shooting Range found the woman lying face down on the firing line shortly before 7pm.

“Right now there are no details as far as exactly what happened,” BJ Almond, a spokesman for Houston’s Rice University, told the Houston Chronicle.

Rice University has identified the victim as Shepherd School of Music graduate student Emma Lundgren, a violinist from Sweden.

“We are deeply saddened by this loss,” Adria Baker, director of Rice’s Office of International Students and Scholars, said in a statement.

“We were in frequent contact with Emma, and she will be missed. Our sympathy goes out to Emma’s family and friends, fellow students and teachers at Rice.”

Lundgren was working on her Master of Music degree for violin after transferring to Rice University from the University of Kentucky last autumn. She studied at the Oberlin College Conservatory of Music in Ohio from 2001-2005, according to Rice University.
