Stockholm hit by season’s first major snowfall

Thick snow continued to fall throughout much of the Stockholm are late Thursday morning.

The Swedish Road Authority warned that large parts of the country would be affected by slippery conditions on Thursday.

Stockholm’s buses were hit especially hard with several delays and cancellations, according to SL.

Throughout the day, road conditions are expected to improve on Sweden’s west coast and in Skåne. But the Road Authority expected continued problems in Svealand, southern Norrland, and eastern Götaland.

Several traffic accidents occurred along the E4 expressway in Södermanland.

“It is extremely slippery at the moment,” said Fredrik Lindfors of the Sörmland police.

From Thursday onward colder air from the east is expected to move through the area which will keep temperatures below freezing.

The snow is expected in several areas as coastal winds increase, according to weather service SMHI.
