Christian Democrat: test schoolkids for drug use

A senior Christian Democrat member of parliament has proposed introducing compulsory drug testing for all high school children.

The Swedish government has previously suggested that it should be possible to test children under the age of 15. But now Inger Davidson, writing in Dagens Nyheter, has called for the bar to be raised to include all school children up to the age of 19.

“It’s not about body searches but if there is a well-founded suspicion you should be able to take a urine, blood or saliva sample,” wrote Davidson, vice chairman of the parliamentary Committee on Justice.

The article, which appeared on Dagens Nyheter’s opinion page, was signed by several of Davidson’s colleagues from Upplands-Väsby municipality.
