Robbers place ‘bomb’ outside police station

A suspected bomb was placed outside a police station in Stockholm on Monday by robbers before they went to raid a nearby bureau de change.

The suspected bomb was placed outside the police station in Kista, northern Stockholm, late on Monday evening, police have said. It is not yet clear whether it was a bomb or a decoy.

Police bomb squad officers removed the suspect device to render it safe. Early on Tuesday morning it remained unclear whether it was a real bomb.

The robbers raided the Exchange Finans bureau de change in the Kista Galleria mall at 8:42pm. A shot was fired, but nobody was injured and the robbers left empty handed.

Police have found the robbers’ getaway car.

“The car was found on Nordkapsgatan. Witnesses saw the robbers change to another car there, but we still have not got a lead on them,” said police spokeswoman Towe Hägg.

The Exchange Finans bureau de change has been the subject of several robberies in recent months. In early March two men tried to rob the bureau, but made away empty handed. In February two masked men made away with money, and in the week before Christmas several armed men held up the bureau.
