Jilted Sweden Democrats move congress to Denmark

The Sweden Democrats almost had to postpone their annual congress due to the lack of a venue.

It was not until the party turned to Denmark that its luck changed. The congress can now be held on April 27th to 29th as planned – in Copenhagen.

Party secretary Björn Söder was reluctant to reveal the exact location of this year’s congress.

“We will wait until the week before to make it public. That’s because we have experience of what can happen if we reveal the information too early,” he said.

Before receiving the good news from Denmark on Monday evening, things were looking bleak for the Sweden Democrats. Conference facilities in Saltsjöbaden, Norrköping and Bromma had all turned down requests from the far right party.

Since it did not have a venue, the party missed its deadline for sending out notification to 200 participants.

“The notice is two days late but I hope and believe that our representatives will show understanding,” said Björn Söder.
