The opposition Social Democrats have said that they do not currently wish to debate with the Sweden Democrat leader Jimmie Åkesson. The debate is due to be broadcast on Sunday.
Even before that, on Thursday evening, a representative from one of the four parties of the governing Alliance is due to debate with the Åkesson on TV8’s Adaktusson programme, according to Dagens Nyheter.
The September general election was widely seen as a breakthrough for the Sweden Democrats. The party won 2.8 percent of the national vote, and ended up holding the balance of power in a number of local councils.
