Systembolaget managers admit to corruption

Two of the six store managers in the third Systembolaget bribery trial have admitted to taking bribes. One had confessed earlier but the second admitted to the crime when court proceedings began on Wednesday.

“This strengthens my case and it’s good that someone takes responsibility for what they’ve done,” said prosecutor Bengt Blomqvist.

Seven people who were previously employed at the supplier Philipson & Söderberg deny bribery, including the firm’s former managing director.

“He denies any crime and has not offered bribes or any other payment,” said the man’s lawyer, Hans Strandberg.

“He didn’t even know the payments were being made.”
