Storm leaves Colombian Embassy in flames

The roof of the Colombian Embassy in Stockholm was in flames on Monday afternoon after apparently being struck by lightning.

Heavy storms caused disruption across the Swedish capital. The Nacka Tunnel, part of Stockholm’s southern link road, was closed for several hours after metre-deep water made it impassable.

In the Vasastan district a pavement collapsed, leaving a large open hole in the middle of the sidewalk off Odengatan.

The storm also caused disruption to the public transport network, with two lines on the T-bana subway system suspended for a short period.

The fire at the Colombian Embassy, situated on the island of Lidingö to the east of the city centre, was still burning at 6 pm. Emergency services say that nobody was hurt in the fire.

Police said that the road system generally coped well with the storm. The Nacka Tunnel reopened at 5.30 pm.
